A recent fundraiser at Wag’s Restaurant and Bar helped SOS Safe Ride provide enough support to prevent more than 50 potential impaired-driving incidents in the Frederick area, according to the organization.

SOS Safe Ride said Wag’s hosted a “Tips for a Cause: Safe Summer Edition” event last month, with proceeds helping the organization provide rides that get both people and their vehicles home safely after a night out.

The organization credited the fundraiser with helping keep Frederick-area roads safer by giving residents an alternative to driving after drinking.

SOS Safe Ride is also encouraging people who have not yet used the service to take advantage of their first free ride.

The organization said rides are available Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Residents can request service by downloading the SOS Safe Ride app on Apple or Android devices or by calling 240-722-7422.

The effort highlights the role local businesses can play in supporting community safety programs, while also reminding residents that there are options available when they need a safe ride home.

WHAT IT MEANS

This is a strong example of a local business directly supporting a public-safety effort in Frederick. The fundraiser helped expand access to safe rides home, giving residents another option besides driving after drinking.
