HERE'S WHAT WE KNOW

Fletcher reported about $32,000 raised overall and Day about $30,000, leading the field in the supplied report. The overall totals cover Jan. 1, 2023, through Oct. 18, 2026; the latest reporting period covers Aug. 19 through Oct. 18. Wilson reported the largest ending cash balance among the listed candidates, at approximately $11,000. Eight candidates are competing for four seats.

Heather Fletcher and Casey Day lead reported fundraising among the eight candidates seeking four seats on Frederick County’s school board, according to campaign-finance figures compiled by The Frederick News-Post.

The overall totals cover Jan. 1, 2023, through Oct. 18, 2026. They are distinct from the latest reporting window, Aug. 19 through Oct. 18.

Fletcher reported approximately $32,000 raised and $42,000 spent over the overall period, with about $11,000 in outstanding loans. Day reported approximately $30,000 raised and $29,000 spent, with $600 in outstanding loans.

Day told the newspaper that more than 250 grassroots donors had contributed to her campaign. Her latest report included donations from 10 Frederick County Public Schools teachers or staff members. Fletcher did not respond to the newspaper’s request for comment.

The other reported overall fundraising totals were approximately $23,000 for Chad King Wilson Sr., $15,000 for Dean Rose, $11,000 for Rae Gallagher, $6,000 for Tyler Walker, $4,000 for Geoffrey Seidel and $2,000 for Shelley Potter.

The candidates are associated with two endorsement groups. The union-endorsed Apple Ballot includes Day and current board members Rose, Gallagher and Wilson. The Orange Ballot includes Fletcher, Potter, Seidel and Walker and is endorsed by a conservative-leaning PAC.

Better Maryland Schools separately endorsed Potter, Seidel and Walker.

During the most recent reporting period, Day and Fletcher each reported roughly $7,000 raised. Day’s largest listed contribution for that period was $3,000 from MSEA’s Fund for Children and Public Education. Fletcher’s largest listed donation was $237.45 from Susan Barbera.

The report also lists $2,000 in education-union support for Gallagher and a $2,000 transfer from the MSEA fund to Rose during that period. Wilson’s largest contribution was $2,000 from County Council President Brad Young.

Fundraising leadership does not necessarily translate into the largest amount left to spend. Wilson reported approximately $11,000 in ending cash and no expenditures during the latest window. Gallagher and Rose each reported about $3,000 in ending cash, while Day reported about $2,000.

Fletcher reported an ending balance of about $933, Walker $768.80, Potter $504.08 and Seidel $69.94.

Printing, mailers, yard signs and other campaign materials accounted for substantial spending across the field. The figures offer a snapshot through Oct. 18 rather than a final accounting of the campaigns.

WHAT IT MEANS

Total money raised, money spent, outstanding loans and cash on hand describe different parts of campaign finances. The numbers show resources available to communicate with voters, not voter support or a prediction of the outcome.
