Oakdale girls soccer beats Urbana 2-1 on late Adriana Kramer winner
Freshman Riley Arnold delivered the late cross and senior Adriana Kramer finished the game-winner with 2:55 left as Oakdale edged Urbana 2-1.

Oakdale girls soccer found a dramatic way to earn its first win of the season.
With the game tied late and one of the Bears’ top offensive players sidelined, freshman Riley Arnold stepped into the moment.
Arnold sent a dangerous cross toward senior Adriana Kramer, who finished with her right foot to give Oakdale a 2-1 win over Urbana with 2 minutes, 55 seconds remaining.
The winning sequence came shortly after senior striker Fiona Collins was forced out of the game with a hip injury.
Collins had already played a major role in Oakdale’s attack. Earlier, she served a corner kick into the box that junior midfielder Ella Lebo converted for Oakdale’s first goal.
Urbana answered before halftime.
Junior defender Livia Marchand tied the game with 4:06 left in the first half, scoring on a free kick from about 33 yards out.
The Hawks had chances to take the lead in the second half as junior forward Arielle Raborg threatened twice, but Oakdale held firm.
Then Arnold created the decisive chance.
The freshman’s contribution was especially important because she was playing just her second varsity game. Oakdale coach Ann Schwarzenberg praised Arnold’s effort and knowledge of the game after the match.
The victory evened Oakdale’s record at 1-1 after a season-opening 3-0 loss to John Carroll.
This Oakdale team looks different from the group that reached the Class 3A state final last season. The Bears return several key players, including Collins, Kramer and junior center-back Lexie Byrd-Figueroa, but graduated a significant amount of veteran talent.
Oakdale has only six seniors this season.
That makes contributions from younger players such as Arnold even more important as the Bears work to establish a new identity.
WHAT IT MEANS
Oakdale showed it can still manufacture dangerous chances even when Collins is unavailable.
Arnold’s late assist was a particularly encouraging sign for a team replacing significant talent from last season’s state-final run.
The Bears now have their first win and something positive to build on as the new-look roster develops.
