Jeffely Pargo is one of four national finalists in NASCAR Powerball — The Chase, according to a Maryland Lottery announcement reported by The Frederick News-Post. He and a guest are headed to Miami for Championship Weekend, Nov. 6–8.
The grand-prize drawing is scheduled for Nov. 8, shortly before 2 p.m., during pre-race coverage of the NASCAR Cup Series Championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway. One finalist will receive $1 million. Each of the other three will receive $10,000.
Pargo, a retired federal government employee, has already collected $12,500 while advancing through four rounds of the promotion. He was selected from more than 276,000 Maryland entries in the second-chance promotion, which ran May 4 through June 15.
The national field was narrowed from 10 players to four during a Cup Series event at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia, the report said. Joining Pargo in the final drawing are Agnes Whitaker of North Carolina, Rachel Tobaben of Nebraska and Tina Lanning of South Carolina.
The trip package includes round-trip airfare for each finalist and a guest, three nights of hotel accommodations, meals and VIP experiences. For Pargo, that means getting to experience a NASCAR race in person for the first time while waiting to learn whether he will take home the top prize.
He told the lottery he was excited about the opportunity and already felt like a winner. If he receives the $1 million, he plans to take his fiancé on a major trip, according to the report.
The million-dollar result is still ahead. Pargo has secured a place in the final four, but he has not yet won the grand prize. Frederick residents following his run will get their answer at the scheduled Nov. 8 drawing.
