Mountain View Diner closes after 26 years on Frederick’s Golden Mile
The longtime Golden Mile restaurant has permanently closed after an eviction tied to more than $37,500 in unpaid rent and late fees.

Mountain View Diner has permanently closed after 26 years of business on Frederick’s Golden Mile.
The diner announced the closure Thursday, thanking customers and staff for decades of support. Court documents show the landlord filed for repossession of the property on July 28 over unpaid rent, and as of Aug. 18 the business owed more than $37,500 in rent and late fees. The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office went to the property Wednesday for the eviction.
The closure is being felt across the Golden Mile, where the diner had long served as a familiar gathering place.
Robert Van Rens, executive director of the Golden Mile Alliance, said the restaurant’s closure will leave a noticeable gap in the community. He said the diner’s parking lot was often full on weekends and that it did not appear to be struggling to attract customers.
Longtime customer Sue Mahla said she will miss both the food and the staff. She said employees had gone out of their way to accommodate her dietary restrictions and described the diner as a place that felt welcoming and familiar.
Mahla said she hopes another diner eventually moves into the space, but she does not expect it will be easy to replace the atmosphere Mountain View Diner had created over the years.
The restaurant had become a recognizable part of Frederick’s Golden Mile over more than two decades, and its closure removes one of the area’s longtime independently operated dining spots.
