Week 3 brings four unbeaten Frederick County football teams into major matchups
Middletown-Oakdale, Urbana-Walkersville and Tuscarora-Linganore headline a Week 3 slate featuring several unbeaten teams and early-season tests.

HERE'S WHAT WE KNOW
Middletown and Oakdale are both 2-0. Urbana and Walkersville are both 2-0. Tuscarora and Linganore are both 2-0. Linganore has won 15 straight games. Tuscarora is seeking its first 3-0 start since 2016. Frederick is seeking its first win under EJ Wallace. Catoctin enters on a 10-game losing streak.
Week 3 of the high school football season brings several of Frederick County’s biggest early-season tests.
The headline matchups feature Middletown at Oakdale, Urbana at Walkersville and Tuscarora at Linganore, with all six teams entering those games unbeaten.
Middletown at Oakdale
Both teams enter at 2-0.
Oakdale has rolled through St. John’s Catholic Prep 63-8 and Thomas Johnson 42-6, while Middletown has beaten Boonsboro 18-7 and Kent Island 28-0.
Middletown junior quarterback Austin Murray, filling in for starter Ryan Coulby, completed 10 of 11 passes for 107 yards and three touchdowns against Kent Island.
The Knights also rushed for more than 200 yards in that victory.
Middletown won last season’s meeting 20-17, snapping Oakdale’s four-game winning streak in the series.
Urbana at Walkersville
Urbana and Walkersville are also 2-0.
Walkersville opened with blowout wins over Liberty and South Carroll, while Urbana beat Owings Mills before rallying past Westminster 31-21 with an 18-point fourth quarter.
Last season’s matchup went down to the final seconds, with Urbana preserving a win on a goal-line interception with 10 seconds remaining.
The teams have split their last six meetings dating to 2011.
Tuscarora at Linganore
Tuscarora is trying to start 3-0 for the first time since 2016.
That will require beating defending Class 3A state champion Linganore, which enters on a 15-game winning streak.
Linganore opened with a 29-28 win over reigning 4A-3A state champion MERVO before beating Meade 49-14.
Tuscarora has defeated North Hagerstown and Brunswick to begin the season.
The Titans have only one win in 24 all-time meetings with Linganore.
Other Week 3 games
Frederick is looking for its first win under coach EJ Wallace when it hosts South Hagerstown.
The Cadets are 0-2 after losses to Guilford Park and Smyrna, Delaware.
Catoctin will try to end a 10-game losing streak against Williamsport, while Brunswick hosts Boonsboro.
Thomas Johnson travels to North Hagerstown after a 42-6 loss to Oakdale, and Maryland School for the Deaf puts its 2-0 record on the line against Model.
WHAT IT MEANS
Week 3 should begin separating the early contenders from the rest of the county.
The three unbeaten-vs.-unbeaten matchups could also provide an early look at which teams are best positioned for strong regular seasons and postseason runs.
