HERE'S WHAT WE KNOW
Deputies responded to Oakdale Middle School at approximately 1:45 p.m. Monday after an anonymous phone threat. Authorities deemed the threat not credible. A search found no suspicious items, and students and staff returned to the building. The incident remains under investigation. The report did not provide an exact evacuation duration or identify the caller.
Students and staff returned to Oakdale Middle School on Monday after an anonymous bomb threat prompted an evacuation and a search of the building and grounds, according to The Frederick News-Post.
Frederick County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at approximately 1:45 p.m., agency spokesperson Katie Robine told the newspaper. Investigators determined the threat was not credible, although the incident remains under investigation.
Principal Brandy Brown told families that the threat came through an anonymous call to the school’s front office. School officials notified law enforcement and moved students and staff out of the building while first responders conducted a search.
No suspicious materials or items were found, Brown said. Students and staff were then allowed to return inside.
In her message to parents, Brown praised students for following instructions and cooperating with school employees and law enforcement during the evacuation. She said the school would continue to take such incidents seriously and work to maintain a safe environment.
The message was sent at approximately 2:49 p.m. Monday. It did not identify the precise time the call arrived or how long students and staff were outside, so those times do not establish the evacuation’s duration.
Robine told the newspaper there had been no other recent similar threats involving Frederick County Public Schools. FCPS associate superintendent Eric Louérs-Phillips said the district had no additional information to share while investigators continued their work.
The report did not identify a caller or announce an arrest. The confirmed outcome was that the search found no suspicious items and the school was cleared for students and staff to return.
WHAT IT MEANS
The immediate evacuation ended with students and staff returning inside. Investigators are still examining the threat, and the report does not establish who made the call.
