Donald, Duck and Stanley Led District 4 Delegate Field in First Returns
Democrats held the first three positions in District 4’s House race. In the District 2 Senate contest, the initial tally put Republican Paul Corderman ahead by just 48 votes.

HERE'S WHAT WE KNOW
District 4 House: Donald, Duck and Stanley held the first three positions in the opening tally for three seats. District 2 Senate: Corderman led Van Buren 9,375 to 9,327. In District 4, Westdorp led Folden. District 3’s incumbent Democratic delegates and District 5’s Republican House candidates led their respective fields.
Three seats were open in Maryland’s District 4 House of Delegates race, and Democrats occupied the first three places in Tuesday night’s initial count. Frederick County Council member Jerry Donald had 10,284 votes, followed by Army veterans Andrew Duck with 10,030 and Alleria Stanley with 9,676. The figures included early voting and some mail ballots, according to The Frederick News-Post.
Republican incumbents Jesse Pippy and April Fleming Miller had 7,543 and 7,350 votes, respectively, and Republican Jason Keckler had 7,154. In the separate District 4 Senate contest, Democratic challenger Lara Westdorp led Republican incumbent Bill Folden, 10,423 to 7,602.
District 2 had the tightest Senate margin among the races reported: Republican Paul Corderman had 9,375 votes and Democrat Eric Van Buren had 9,327, a difference of 48. In District 2A’s two-seat House race, Republicans William Wivell (6,996) and William Valentine (6,727) were ahead of Democrats John Leonard (6,286) and Brandon Thompson (6,238).
In District 3, Democratic Sen. Karen Lewis Young led Republican Shelley Aloi, 12,120 to 3,537. The two had both served on Frederick’s city governing board. For the district’s three House seats, incumbent Democrats Kris Fair (11,756), Ken Kerr (11,628) and Karen Simpson (11,547) led Republican Angela McIntosh (3,691).
District 5, which lies mostly in Carroll County but includes parts of Frederick County, showed Republican leads in both chambers. Justin Ready had 14,804 votes to Democrat Gary Foote’s 10,367 for Senate. In the three-seat House race, Chris Tomlinson had 13,938, April Rose had 13,920 and Steve Whisler had 13,517. Democrats Alison Rudolph (10,315), Dayana Bergman (9,981) and Courtney Alexa Welch (9,645) followed.
All of these figures describe the same stage of counting on election night. The early rankings in the multi-seat House contests did not award seats or determine the next delegation.
WHAT IT MEANS
Voters in these districts elect one senator per district, but the House races described here fill two or three seats. A candidate’s early position matters in relation to the number of seats available as well as the votes still to be counted.
