Son, Tudor and Moskowitz Take Third at Maryland State Golf Championships
Urbana’s Claire Son rallies in her final high school round, while sophomores Landon Tudor and Cooper Moskowitz also climb from fifth to third.

HERE'S WHAT WE KNOW
Son, Tudor and Moskowitz each moved from fifth to third in their respective state divisions. Son shot 76 in her final high school round. Tudor finished at 147, and Moskowitz finished at 149. Middletown placed third in the 2A/1A team competition, while Linganore placed fifth in 4A/3A.
Three Frederick County golfers climbed from fifth place to third during Wednesday’s final round of the state championships at the University of Maryland Golf Course.
Urbana senior Claire Son finished third in Class 4A/3A girls, Oakdale sophomore Landon Tudor took third in 4A/3A boys, and Middletown sophomore Cooper Moskowitz placed third in 2A/1A boys, according to The Frederick News-Post.
For Son, the finish provided a strong ending to her high school career. After an opening-round 84 on Monday, she returned with a 76, an eight-stroke improvement and a two-round total of 160.
Son said a calmer approach helped her rebound. She credited better driving, approach shots and putting after struggling with stress and three-putts in the opening round. Urbana coach Brandon Walker praised her determination to recover when the tournament was not initially going her way.
Tudor posted a final-round 73 and a 147 total, the lowest two-round score among the county golfers. He improved substantially on his 12th-place finish at last year’s state tournament.
He finished two strokes behind Crofton’s Ty Swann and Walt Whitman’s Miles Simpson, who tied at 145. Swann won the title in a two-hole playoff.
Tudor said patience helped him get into contention. Oakdale coach Michael Skena credited the sophomore for competing well against a difficult course and strong opponents.
Moskowitz shot 75 in the final round for a 149 total, three strokes behind 2A/1A champion Michael Hoy of Manchester Valley. He described staying composed through bogeys and making difficult par putts as important parts of his finish.
The golfers also had to adjust to firm fairways and greens, with conditions changing between rounds.
Middletown finished third in the 2A/1A team standings behind Manchester Valley and River Hill. Alongside Moskowitz, the Knights’ scoring golfers were Bodie Winfield, who placed 12th; Ollie Witt, 15th; and Eleanor Countryman, 11th in the girls tournament.
Linganore placed fifth in the 4A/3A team standings. Its scoring golfers were Jackson Stanley, 13th; Johann Aguillon, 18th; Jake Stanley, 22nd; and Joseph Pearson, 35th.
Other county finalists included Walkersville’s Celine Lieu, fifth in 2A/1A girls; Catoctin’s Callen Edmonston, eighth in 2A/1A boys; Urbana’s Olivia Zheng, 10th in 4A/3A girls; Catoctin’s Colton Gray, 23rd; Urbana’s Camden Forsythe, 34th in 4A/3A boys; and Brunswick’s Calan Ricketts, 37th in 2A/1A boys.
The three third-place finishes belong to separate divisions. Together, they highlight both a successful senior farewell and promising performances from two sophomores.
WHAT IT MEANS
Son ended her high school career with a strong recovery, while Tudor and Moskowitz have opportunities to build on their results as underclassmen. The individual placements and team standings are separate accomplishments and should not be combined into one shared podium.
