Austin Murray stays nearly perfect as Middletown shuts out Kent Island 28-0
The Knights’ fill-in quarterback completed his first nine passes and threw three touchdowns as Middletown improved to 2-0.

Middletown’s unexpected quarterback situation is turning into one of the Knights’ early-season strengths.
Junior Austin Murray completed his first nine passes and finished 10 of 11 for 107 yards and three touchdowns as Middletown shut out Kent Island 28-0 on Friday.
Murray was not expected to be the starter entering the season.
Senior Ryan Coulby had been projected to lead the offense, but appendix problems sidelined him after the team’s first scrimmage. That forced Murray into the role shortly before the season began.
So far, the transition has worked.
After leading Middletown to an 18-7 win over Boonsboro in his first varsity start, Murray followed with an even sharper performance against Kent Island.
He threw two touchdown passes to senior Eddie Quinn, including a 17-yard score on fourth-and-7 late in the first quarter, and later connected with Trey Wilkes for a 19-yard touchdown in the fourth.
Quinn, wearing No. 7, has quickly become one of Murray’s most trusted targets.
Middletown also got its running game going behind Gavin Shankle and Colton Lawson.
The Knights now head into an early-season showdown at Oakdale next Friday with a 2-0 record and a backup quarterback who increasingly looks comfortable running the offense.
WHAT IT MEANS
Middletown has found stability at quarterback at a moment when the season could have been disrupted by injury.
Murray’s poise and accuracy have helped the Knights win their first two games, and the next matchup against Oakdale will provide a much stronger test of how far this offense has come.
