Urbana baseball’s Trevor Collins commits to Monmouth
Urbana senior Trevor Collins will continue his baseball career at Monmouth after the Hawks’ switch-hitting utility player caught the attention of college coaches through a highlight video.

Trevor Collins is a senior at Urbana. He committed to Monmouth on Sept. 14. Monmouth first noticed him after he posted a highlight video online. Collins is a switch-hitter. He can play multiple positions. He expects to play catcher at Monmouth. He hit .310 last season. He had six extra-base hits and 18 RBIs. Urbana won its first state baseball championship last spring. Collins chose Monmouth over Rider.
A highlight video posted online helped open the door to Division I baseball for Urbana senior Trevor Collins.
Collins posted a package of clips on X last summer hoping to attract college coaches. The video eventually reached the staff at Monmouth University, which became interested in his quick swing, switch-hitting ability and versatility across several positions.
That connection led to a visit in early September and a scholarship offer.
Collins announced his commitment to Monmouth on Sept. 14, becoming the second Division I-bound player in Urbana’s senior class, joining pitcher Landon Lee, who is committed to High Point.
Collins said Monmouth’s campus, baseball program and coaching staff all stood out during the recruiting process.
He chose the Hawks over another offer from Rider University after meeting with longtime Monmouth coach Dean Ehehalt.
The position mattered, too.
Collins expects to play catcher in college, a role he said appeals to him because of the leadership responsibility and constant involvement in the game.
He is also expected to take over as Urbana’s full-time catcher this spring after spending much of last season as the team’s primary designated hitter while filling in defensively at multiple spots.
Collins hit .310 with six extra-base hits and 18 RBIs in 21 games as Urbana won the program’s first state championship in May. He earned Frederick News-Post All-County honorable mention.
A strong summer with US Elite National helped strengthen his recruiting profile.
Collins showed more power at the plate while also improving his ability to throw out base stealers from behind the plate.
Now he turns his attention back to Urbana.
With a larger leadership role expected this spring, Collins believes the Hawks have a legitimate chance to repeat as champions.
WHAT IT MEANS
Collins’ commitment gives Urbana another Division I player from a senior class that already helped deliver the program’s first state championship.
His move to full-time catcher should also make him one of the Hawks’ most important leaders as they try to defend that title.
