Tuscarora’s Siena Foster repeats, Brunswick’s Griffen Adelman earns first win at Mountain Run
Siena Foster won the girls race for the second straight year, while Brunswick junior Griffen Adelman earned his first varsity cross-country victory at Woodsboro Park.

Griffen Adelman won the boys race in 17:13.7. It was Adelman’s first varsity cross-country victory. Kayden Harris of Linganore finished second in 17:32.7. Siena Foster won the girls race in 19:54. Woodsboro Park will also host the Frederick County championship meet next month.
Two Frederick County runners reached meaningful milestones Thursday at the Mountain Run at Woodsboro Park.
For Tuscarora’s Siena Foster, it was another victory on a familiar course.
For Brunswick’s Griffen Adelman, it was a first.
Adelman won the boys race in 17:13.7, finishing 19 seconds ahead of Linganore’s Kayden Harris, who placed second in 17:32.7.
The victory carried extra significance for the Brunswick junior.
His older brother Asher Adelman was a successful runner for Brunswick and won the same Mountain Run last year in 17:03.9 before graduating.
Griffen said his brother’s success pushed him to improve, and Thursday’s race marked his first varsity cross-country win.
On the girls side, Foster won the Mountain Run for the second consecutive year.
She finished in 19:54, more than a minute faster than her winning time of 21:07 on the same course last season.
The result followed another recent victory for Foster, who won the Mountain Bash at Utica Park the previous week in 19:25.
Foster said she has recently focused more on running than swimming and has been working specifically on hills, something that paid off on Woodsboro’s challenging course.
Tuscarora also won the girls team championship with 52 points, edging Linganore by one.
Brunswick finished third with 83 points and Mountain Ridge placed fourth with 102.
In the boys team competition, Walkersville won with 64 points.
Francis Scott Key was second with 67, Linganore was third with 78 and Tuscarora placed fourth with 101.
Walkersville senior Lawrence Proulx led the Lions with a fifth-place finish in 18:02.8.
Despite Adelman’s individual win, Brunswick finished sixth in the boys standings with 147 points.
The event also served as an important preview.
The Frederick County championship meet will be held at the same Woodsboro Park course next month, giving runners from Tuscarora, Brunswick, Walkersville, Linganore, Middletown and Frederick a chance to study the terrain ahead of the county meet.
WHAT IT MEANS
The meet provided both individual milestones and an early preview of the county championship course.
Foster continues to establish herself as one of the county’s top girls runners, while Adelman’s first varsity win gives Brunswick another strong distance runner after the graduation of his older brother.
The team results also suggest the county championship races could be tight, particularly on the girls side where Tuscarora edged Linganore by a single point.
