The Frederick News-Post reports that a jury found Jeffrey Josue Diaz, 26, guilty Wednesday of second-degree murder and additional offenses. The newspaper cited a release from the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The shooting happened June 14, 2025, as a red 2018 GMC Sierra carrying six people traveled east on I-70. Around 11:38 p.m., a 911 caller reported that someone in a passing vehicle had fired into the truck.

Eduardo Alexander Alvarado Urrea, 20, was struck and later pronounced dead at a Shell gas station in Mount Airy, where the truck stopped. The driver was also shot, and another man was injured by broken glass.

Police estimated that at least 10 shots were fired into the Sierra.

According to the account of the investigation cited by the newspaper, the occupants had attended an event at the Frederick Fairgrounds earlier that evening. Investigators found that an altercation involving Diaz and one of the truck’s occupants had occurred there.

Cellphone mapping placed Diaz’s vehicle, a 2022 Dodge Ram, near the Sierra at the time of the shooting, according to the release. Diaz was arrested June 29, 2025.

The convictions include second-degree murder, five counts of attempted second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault and six counts of using a firearm in a crime of violence.

The jury also convicted Diaz of possessing a handgun as a prohibited person and unlawfully carrying a loaded handgun.

The supplied report does not include a sentencing date or a sentence.
