Inmate stabbed to death inside Hagerstown prison, state police investigating
Maryland State Police are investigating a suspected homicide after an inmate was found with stab wounds inside the Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown.

An inmate was found with stab wounds at about 10 p.m. Sunday. The inmate was found on a tier inside a housing unit at the Maryland Correctional Training Center. Medical personnel pronounced the inmate dead at the prison. Maryland State Police homicide detectives are investigating. DPSCS is also involved through its Intelligence and Investigative Division. DPSCS says four correctional officers were assigned to the unit at the time. The department says all four officers were wearing body cameras. The inmate’s identity has not yet been publicly released in the information available. No suspect or motive has been publicly announced.
Maryland State Police are investigating a suspected homicide after an inmate was found with stab wounds inside the Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown.
The inmate was discovered at about 10 p.m. Sunday on a tier inside his housing unit, according to WJLA. Medics pronounced him dead at the prison.
Investigators with the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services alerted the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit after the death was discovered.
State police homicide detectives and crime scene technicians then responded to the facility to investigate and collect evidence.
The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services described the death as a suspected homicide and said the investigation is being conducted jointly by Maryland State Police and the department’s Intelligence and Investigative Division.
DPSCS said the housing unit where the incident occurred was fully staffed at the time.
According to the department, four correctional officers were assigned to the unit under the existing staffing plan, and all four were wearing body cameras. Officers from other tiers also responded after staff learned of the incident.
The department has not publicly identified the inmate in the information released so far.
Authorities also have not announced whether a suspect has been identified, what type of weapon may have been used or what led up to the stabbing.
The Maryland Correctional Training Center is located at 18800 Roxbury Road in Hagerstown and houses incarcerated people at medium, minimum and pre-release security levels, according to the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
DPSCS said no additional information is being released at this stage because the investigation remains active.

The case is now being treated as a suspected homicide inside a state correctional facility.
Investigators will likely review body-camera footage, surveillance video, physical evidence and witness accounts from inside the housing unit as they work to determine what happened.
