Field Hockey Roundup: Catoctin Makes History as Urbana, Walkersville and Middletown Win

Catoctin earns its first victory over Oakdale, while hat tricks from Madelynn Myers, Mia Marquart and Maddie Reaver highlight the local results.

HERE'S WHAT WE KNOW

Catoctin defeated Oakdale 4–3 for its first victory over the Bears in program history. Urbana beat Brunswick 4–1, Walkersville defeated Frederick 7–0 and Middletown topped Century 4–0. Myers, Marquart and Reaver each scored three goals. The wins moved Catoctin and Walkersville to 6–2, Urbana to 7–1 and Middletown to 7–2.

Catoctin’s first-ever field hockey victory over Oakdale led a local roundup that also featured wins for Urbana, Walkersville and Middletown. Madelynn Myers, Mia Marquart and Maddie Reaver each scored hat tricks, according to The Frederick News-Post.

Catoctin 4, Oakdale 3

The Cougars built a 4–0 lead early in the third quarter Monday, then survived a late Oakdale surge to claim their first win over the Bears in program history.

Myers scored three goals for Catoctin, which improved to 6–2. Josey Shaffer added a goal and an assist, Mallory Clark recorded an assist, and goalkeeper Vivian Lewis made eight saves.

Oakdale scored three times in a four-and-a-half-minute stretch of the fourth quarter. Makenna Bales and Reese Rymon each finished with a goal and an assist, while Alexa Ropp also scored. Bears goalkeeper Iris Mokashi made 11 saves.

Playing with an 11-player roster and no substitutes, Catoctin also had a player receive a green card with fewer than three minutes remaining. The Cougars held on to their one-goal advantage to secure the milestone victory.

Urbana 4, Brunswick 1

Morgan Boisvert scored twice as Urbana improved to 7–1 with a win over Brunswick.

Amaya Perera and Emily Dinh supplied the Hawks’ other goals. Dinh also added an assist, while Makenzie Kilcoyne recorded two assists. Goalkeepers Katie Schmitt and Riley Brown combined for seven saves.

Ava Bonnano scored Brunswick’s goal. In a separate junior varsity result included in the roundup, Urbana defeated Linganore 1–0.

Walkersville 7, Frederick 0

Marquart’s hat trick and an assist powered Walkersville to a shutout victory and a 6–2 record.

Jacy Inskeep contributed two goals and an assist. Jia Dunn added a goal and an assist, Destiny Shoemaker scored once, and Riley Cadden recorded an assist.

Four players scored for the Lions, with Marquart and Inskeep accounting for five of the seven goals.

Middletown 4, Century 0

Reaver scored three goals and goalkeeper Charlotte Felton earned her fourth shutout of the season as Middletown improved to 7–2.

Felton made four saves. Liv Parmenter contributed a goal and two assists, while Anya Towson also recorded two assists.

The Knights paired Reaver’s finishing with a scoreless defensive performance to collect their seventh victory.

WHAT IT MEANS

Catoctin’s milestone came in the closest game of the roundup, with its early lead proving decisive against Oakdale’s comeback. Urbana added another win, while Walkersville and Middletown combined strong scoring performances with shutouts.
