HERE'S WHAT WE KNOW

Dublin Underground adds about 1,200 square feet beneath Dublin Roasters on North Market Street. Roy said the space holds 40 to 50 people and rents for $25 an hour. The room is used for private events and meetings, and provides overflow seating when it is not rented.

A gathering space beneath Dublin Roasters Coffee is giving Frederick residents another option for meetings, celebrations and a place to sit with a cup of coffee.

The North Market Street business has added about 1,200 square feet below its main dining room, creating a lower-level venue called Dublin Underground, The Frederick News-Post reports.

Owner Serina Roy told the newspaper that the room accommodates 40 to 50 people and rents for $25 an hour. When it is not reserved for an event, it serves as overflow seating for the coffee shop.

The space has its own parking available behind the business. A remote ordering kiosk and electronic menu allow visitors to order food and drinks from the kitchen upstairs.

Dublin Roasters has been a Frederick fixture since 2000 and has operated at its current location since 2010. Roy said the lower-level space had been used for storage before the conversion.

The area, once the site of a senior center, already complied with the Americans With Disabilities Act, according to the report. Preparing it for its new use required heating, cooling and plumbing improvements, along with ongoing decorating work.

Roy said the business had been using the room for about eight months, with its appearance and setup continuing to evolve. The decor carries over the industrial feel of the upstairs shop.

Events have included baby and bridal showers, team-building activities, Rotary Club meetings and gatherings for other community organizations. A child’s first birthday celebration also used the lawn outside for an inflatable bounce house.

The additional room expands the shop’s options for groups of different sizes. Upstairs, Dublin Roasters holds about 60 people and has a separate community room accommodating 16.

Roy told the News-Post that demand for gathering space helped drive the decision to develop the lower floor. The Underground had bookings through the end of the year at the time of the report.

WHAT IT MEANS

For Frederick groups planning a smaller gathering, Dublin Underground adds an event option connected to an operating coffee shop. Availability and event arrangements will depend on the business’s booking schedule.
